David Tennant to Star in American TV Pilot | Gallifreyan Embassy: It's got a horrible name (Rex Is Not Your Lawyer) but a mildly interesting premise -- in that I'm not sure I'd be interested if Tennant weren't involved but, since he is, it's one that has lots of potential.

Random Book, Random Passage #11
Doctor Who and the Daemons, Barry Letts. I went on a tear in 1983 and 1984 reading all the Target Doctor Who novelisations and still have an entire shelf to prove it.

'Yes, sir,' replied the Sergeant, obviously not believing a word of it, and moved away to sort out the junction boxes ready for the link-up to the electricity supply. The Brigadier moved as a close to the Doctor the heat barrier would let him.

'Do you know what you're doing?' he asked quietly.

The Doctor smiled charmingly. 'My dear chap,' he said, 'I can't wait to find out!'
Great old Pertwee-era Who with the Master no less.

BRIT NOIR Series at Film Forum in New York City:
"HELL DRIVERS

(1957, Cy Endfield) Ex-con Stanley Baker joins William Hartnell’s crew of gravel-hauling truckers, unaware that Hartnell and his screw-loose foreman Patrick McGoohan are running a payroll-skimming scam, while encouraging hairraising reckless driving. Jam-packed cast includes Peggy Cummins (Gun Crazy), Herbert Lom, David McCallum (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), and a pre-007 Sean Connery.

“An unjustly neglected nail-biter. This is the stuff that B-movie dreams are made of, and Hell Drivers does its damnedest to deliver bottom-of-the-bill bliss. Rough, urgent cynicism is the name of the game; there’s precious little Hawksian camaraderie, only capitalism and cutthroat competition. Like its antiheroes, the film moves at a full-throttle pace and hugs the curves remarkably tightly.”
– David Fear, Time Out New York" (thanks email tipster -- must see movie list updated accordingly)

Blogtor Who: That's an intensely blue new Tardis exterior. Not sure the Prof. Jones looks totally suits Mr. Smith, but I'm not put off by any of the pix linked here. Just feeling really, really old. It's one thing when almost all the baseball players on your favorite team are younger than you but when Doctor Who is not only younger than you, he looks like he could be your offspring, that's a kick in the head.

'Doctor Who: The Next Doctor' review - Sepinwall on TV - NJ.com:

"'I'm The Doctor,' goes a familiar refrain from David Tennant early in 'Doctor Who: The Next Doctor,' the latest installment of the British sci-fi institution.
'Doctor who?' his new friend Rosita asks.

'Just The Doctor,' he explains patiently, having been through several hundred similar gags about the difference between the title of the series and of its main character.

'Well, there can't be two of you!' she objects, before introducing him to the man that she knows as 'The Doctor.'"
Wow. I must've been busier than I realized. This completely snuck up on me! I was thinking it was still months before the last Tennant specials showed over here, but "The Next Doctor" is tomorrow and "Planet of the Dead" is next month.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Doctor Who theme wins sci-fi vote: "The distinctive music to Doctor Who has been named the best television sci-fi theme tune in an online vote. It finished ahead of Red Dwarf, The X Files and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, according to website Total Sci-Fi."

Why have I never made it my ringtone? I've got a fancy new phone, time to remedy that.

Hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving. It's been a blast here in the c-dog household. Even though it was just us this year, we did the whole turkey-potatoes-stuffing-yams-cranberry relish spread ... first time either the missus or I had attempted it instead of just fixing a side dish to bring to a relative's. Came out great, if I do say. The turkey was moist and flavorful and, thanks to my America's Test Kitchen cookbook, I made the best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten.

With some time off I've been able to catch up on watching my Dr. Who commentaries. Fun stuff. Listening to the actors cop to their acting mistakes, tease one another, point out when poor Matthew (Adric) Waterhouse was hungover and puking off-camera, etc. is great fun. (Learned just now via the wikipedia link that Mr. Waterhouse has lived in Connecticut since 1998. Bit of local flavor there. Couldn't verify with whitepages.com though, the one Matthew Waterhouse in CT is 35-39 yrs old, so too young to be our Adric.)
